Nijashree (Nij) Shah

Neuropsychologist

B.Psych(Hons), MClinNeuropsych

Nijashree Shah

Nij is an endorsed Clinical Neuropsychologist who holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Clinical Neuropsychology from Macquarie University. She is registered with AHPRA and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.

Nij has experience conducting neuropsychological assessments across the lifespan, with a particular interest in working with children, adolescents and their families. She specializes in neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnostic clarification, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, specific learning disorders, intellectual disability, giftedness, and broader concerns involving attention, executive functioning and cognitive development.

She has specific training and experience in autism assessment, including administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R). Nij integrates these tools with cognitive assessment, developmental history, behavioural observations, questionnaires and information from families, schools and other professionals to develop a comprehensive understanding of each child’s presentation.

Nij’s approach is warm, engaging and child-centered. She places strong emphasis on helping families understand how their child thinks, learns and regulates themselves in everyday life, and provides practical strategies to support attention, emotional regulation, executive functioning, learning, routines and independence. She also offers school consultation and feedback to help translate assessment findings into meaningful classroom strategies and adjustments.

Nij prepares comprehensive neuropsychological, diagnostic and functional reports for families, paediatricians, schools and other treating professionals, including reports that may support NDIS applications, plan reviews and access to appropriate supports.

Alongside her paediatric work, Nij has experience in public health, rehabilitation and complex neurocognitive assessment, as well as a research background through the Brain and Mind Centre at the University of Sydney. She values collaborative, evidence-based and culturally responsive care.

Outside of work, Nij enjoys good coffee, Pilates and exploring new places to eat.
